I Dare You
Disclaimer: I do not own Switchfoot's song "I Dare You to Move", I just felt like writing a songfic to it because I like it so much. I do not own the Inuyasha characters in the songfic, no they are property of the wonderful artist/author Rumiko Takahashi, but the other characters in this fic I either do own or I know their creator and know they don't care if I use them in my fanfiction. I also own the plot line or whatever. I'm warning you now that the story line skips periods in time occasionally, so if you get confused, just reread it. And background information, Akira and Inuyasha live in present day spirit world so Kara, Kaya, Kasai, and Kiba could go to school. They didn't die, Akira just bribed Koenma. Yeah don't sue me, I don't have any money 'cause some witch stole my purse... Stupid kleptomaniacs... T.T

Welcome to the planet
The nurse wiped the sweat off of Akira's forehead, "You did great. Everythings fine now. You'll be able to see her in a minute." She smiled a comforting smile, as she rushed off to the next room. Akira looked up at Inuyasha who sat next to her, still holding her hand as reassurance.
"It's a girl...." Inuyasha grinned proudly. "What are we going to name her?" Slowly, Akira adjusted the way she was lying, so she could face him without straining her neck.
"Kisa..", she whispered so softly, she wasn't sure Inuyasha could hear. Luckily, Inuyasha has his sensitive puppy ears that Akira has always found oh so cute.
"Kisa... That's a perfect name."
Welcome to existence
The door drifted open as the nurse came back holding a pink bundle of joy, followed by the rest of the weary cat-demon's children. "Here you go... Your new born baby girl." She set Kisa, wrapped up in a light pink fleece blanket, into Akira's open and waiting arms. Her innocent face, light and pale, like an angel, her silvery-gold hair in tiny curls on her head, and her never before opened eyes closed in peaceful dream. So young and naive, her soul not yet tainted by the harsh world.
"I'll protect you...Kisa."
Everyone's here
"Mommy?" Akira's eyes darted back to her other children. Kasai stood next to her bed, eyes brimming with tears. "I'm your baby not her... Why can't I still be the youngest.." Her lip began to quiver.
"You're still my baby, each and everyone of you are.... and you always will be. You'll never be to big for me to call you that... But Kisa's the youngest now... It's okay though, it's fun being an older sister, ask Kaya. She was the youngest until you two were born, but she didn't mind. Now you'll have someone you can teach all the cool tricks you know. She'll look up to you." Akira wiped away a stray tear, and rested her hand on the top of her head.
"You won't forget about me? Kara said that when the new baby was born you would pay too much attention to her and would forget all about me." Akira switched her attention to the guilty looking oldest daughter of hers.
"Now, you shouldn't listen to everything Kara says." Kara's mouth opened in defense, but quickly snapped shut as she got a glare from her mother. "Now, it's true that I probably will be spending a lot of time taking care of Kisa, I will never forget about you. You're too adorable for me to do that. Now quit pouting or your face will get stuck that way." The smile returned to the young cat's face. "That's better."
Kisa squirmed in her mothers arms, stretching for the first time, yawning aswell, showing off her fangless gums. Then she opened her shining emerald eyes, focusing, and the first thing she sees is her adoring mother's face glowing with happiness.
Everyone's here
Screaming kids raced out the door, into the backyard, ready to run off all the sugar they just consumed. "Kaya, go outside and make sure they don't kill themselves." Akira sighed, not bothering to look away from cleaning Kisa's frosting covered face.
"But mom, they're all hyper and insane." Kaya whined while picking up all of the presents that Kisa got for her 1st birthday.
"All the more reason for them to have a babysitter. Now go." Knowing she had no chance of winning against her headstrong mother, she trudged angrily outside.
After cleaning her completely off, Akira took Kisa out of her high chair and carried her into the room with all of the adults, and set her next to some of her new toys, so she could play while her mother watched her. Akira took a seat next to her husband, and rested her head on his shoulder.
"Are you tired sweety?" Inuyasha inquired, "I can watch the children while you take a nap." Akira wrapped her arms around his neck.
"No, I'm fine. I just need a break for a minute." she whispered. Her heavy eye-lids fell shut, almost bringing her to much needed sleep, when Kisa began to whine.
Everybody's watching you now
Akira sat up, "Mommy's here sweety." Kisa whined more as she reach towards her mother, outstretched arms wanting to be picked up and carried.
"I'll take care of her for a while," Angel suggested, walking over to the tiny child." I'm good with children." As she went to lift her up off the floor, she began to cry.
"Maaah.....Maa maa....Moommy" she screamed as the tears began to fall. Angel quickly set her back down, and the volume decreased.
"'I'm good with children.'" Ezzy laughed, earning her a glare from the embarrassed demon.
Everybody waits for you now
Akira was about to jump up and rush to her baby's side, but Inuyasha held her back.
"Inuyasha, what are you doing? Let me go." she snapped, trying to pull her arm away from him.
"Just wait a second, I want to see something."
What happens next?
Everyone watched as the whining decreased to a low whimper, and Kisa began to crawl towards the couch.
What happens next?
But she stopped... Shifting so that her feet were touching the floor, supporting herself with her hands, and tried to stand up. When she gained her balance, she took her first step.
I dare you to move
"Mommy.." whispered Kisa, walking a bit futher towards her goal, taking her time, pacing herself.
I dare you to move
Akira's tiredness quickly melted away, and was replaced by the overwhelming feeling of pride, as tears welled up, tears full of joy.
"Mommy." Kisa repeated, louder, as she walked a little faster, but her balance faultered, and she fell.
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
That didn't stop her though. As stubborn as her mother, she stood right back up and tried again.
I dare you to move
"Kisa..." Akira watched in awe as her baby began to grow up. She giggled at the sound of her name.
I dare you to move
Five more feet..... Four more feet..... Three more feet..... Once she was sure she was close enough, Kisa ran the rest of the way.
Like today never happened
Never before has she been so proud, as Akira gently pulled her into a hug, the only child of hers that learned how to walk without help.
Today never happened before
"I love you so much, Kisa."
Welcome to the fallout
Kiba walked down the junior high hallway, in search of his locker, with Kasai pretending to be his shadow. When he found it, he was already tired and testy from having to walk down five other hallways, and the guy standing infront of his locker didn't look like he was going to budge.
"Hey, excuse me. That's my locker, so could you please move." he sighed loud enough for him to hear, had he been listening. When he didn't get a reaction, he reached out and tapped him on the shoulder.
Welcome to resistence
"Who do you think you are? Touching me you little dweeb. Stupid sixth grader." The blonde stood taller, as if to intimidate Kiba, but it wasn't working.
"I wanted to inform you that this is my locker and I would like you to move aside." Kiba snapped, his patience being tested. Much like his father, he can be easily annoyed and becomes quite belligerant when that happens.
The tension is here
"Oh, so you own this locker... Well its mine now, so find somewhere else to put you stuff. Now fork over the combination." He held out his huge hand, expecting Kiba to just cower at his feet.
"No, now move aside so I can get to class." Kiba said, with his last bit of self control slipping through his fingers.
"So it's a fight you want." The blonde bully balled up his fists and shifted to his boxing pose. "Come on prettyboy, I'll even let you throw the first punch so you at least have a chance."
The tension is here
Kasai could no longer stand in the background. She walked up to Kiba's side and clung to his sleeve. "Kiba, I'll share my locker with you. It's closer to our class room anyway. I don't want you to get into any trouble right now." she pleaded with her brother. Kiba was just about to agree when the arrogant boy opened his mouth again.
"You," the bully hissed, "Shut-up like a good little witch and run along to class." And that's when all Hell broke loose.
Between who you are and you could be
Kiba could no longer help himself, self control flew out the window and drifted away, like a leaf on the wind, replaced by large amounts of pure rage. His eyes narrowed and his fist began to clench, but he made sure not to catch he claws again, he stilled had scars from the lasts fight he was in when his nail went into his palm, because he threw a punch. But that was a stupid fight, for stupid reasons, but when you mess with his baby sister, expect some fur to fly. He's not giving up 'til he wins.
Between how it is and how it should be
A huge fist began barreling toward Kiba's face, without a second for him to react. He flinched as it smacked into his cheek, sharp with pain. Stumbling backwards, he smashed into the lockers, creating a large bang. Ok, so maybe his a bit stronger than first suspected, but he's still not giving up, and ran back at the boy.
I dare you to move
Inuyasha raced down the hallway to see what the commotion was all about, still angry after having to fill out a lot of papers, all those In Case Of Emergency forms. As he pushed his way through the crowd, he saw Kiba on the ground, the bully standing over him laughing. He moved forward, in attempts to stop the fight, but someone caught his hand.
"Akira? Where'd you come from?"
I dare you to move
"Home, I sensed something was wrong." She turned and watched he son. "We have to let him do this himself. He's doing this for a reason."
The ruthless bully kept punching away, until Kiba trip backwards and fell. His lip bleeding and the start of a bruise encircling his left eye, he sat there, trying to find any hidden strength. Kasai rushed to his side, and wiped away the bit of blood on his lip, then turned her attention to the person who caused her brother's pain. She stood tall and proud, but was still tiny compared to the abnormally sized middle schooler. "Leave my brother alone you big coward. He did nothing to start this fight, you just wanted to feel big and strong by picking on someone smaller than you. I'm sure you wouldn't be so eager to fight if he were a equal fighting partner, and you would actually run and hide. But don't take out your insecurities on my onisan. Just leave him alone!"
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
The bully's faced became contorted with anger, apparantly affected by her words, but in a negative way. He pushed her in anger, luckily Akira moved and stopped her from falling, but before she could speak, Kiba jumped to his feet with newfound energy.
I dare you to move
He rushed at the bully, and threw fist after fist. "Don't Touch My SISTER!" he yelled though his teeth, a very difficult thing to do. The rage soon brought the big brute down to his knees.
I dare you to move
After Kiba had released all his hatred he stepped back and landed against his father, who pulled him into a hug. "It's alright son."
The bully had a bloody lip and black eye like Kiba, but also had a bloody nose and a couple scratches on his cheeks. He was in pain, but stood and quickly rushed off to the nurse's office.
Before the principal said anything, Akira quickly told him 'The other boy started the fight, not her son, and if they had any questions, to contact Koenma-Sama. After that she took them home.
Like today never happened
"Kiba, Kasai, you two are so loyal to eachother, you two have a special bond that can never be broken. I'm quite proud of the way you acted today, though this doesn't give you the excuse to fight." Kiba just smiled, and put his arm around his sister, "She may be a brat sometimes, but no one messes with her without answering to me."
Today never happened
Kara nearly broke down the door, in a rush to open it. "Mommy!" she cried out, as if in pain. Akira nearly cut her finger while cutting vegetables for supper, afraid that something really terrible had happened, because it takes a lot to make Kara say 'mommy'.
"Kara, sweetheart, whats wrong?" she pulled her daughter into a hug, as the tears began.
Maybe redemption has stories to tell
"I'm scared." Akira could tell, by the way she was trebling. "I don't know what to do.... I'm so stupid..."
"Kara," Akira softly said, "Why are you 'so stupid'?" As soon as Kara began to cry, she knew that this was not a mere overaction over a test, or that she got kicked off the football team, no it takes much more for Kara to shed tears.
Maybe forgiveness is right where you fell
"What's wrong? Kara, tell me what's the matter?" Akira was starting to panic, thinking that maybe one of her other children are hurt.
"I can't tell you, I'll get into a lot of trouble. I'm such an idiot." she started sobbing.
"Kara~chan, you know I can't help you if I don't know what I'm helping you with."
Where can you run to escape from yourself?
"I can't tell you, you'll hate me."
Akira's heart broke seeing her oldest child in so much pain. "Kara, I could never hate you and you know that. So what ever it is, tell me."
Where you gonna go?
"Mom... I'm pregnant." her voice cracked as she spoke.
Where you gonna go?
Akira couldn't move, couldn't breathe, the words freezing her in time. 'My Kara...how could she be...'
Salvation is here
"Kara... I don't know how it happened, and for the moment that doesn't matter. What does matter is that I love you, and it's going to be ok." Akira could no longer hold back. She began to cry, feeling how scared and confused her daughter was right now, having been in that situation before.
"What are we going to do?"
I dare you to move
What were they going to do? Akira knew she had to be strong and prepared, so he daughter could stay calm.
"We're gonna.. tell your father when he gets home. Then this weekend, we'll go do a bit of shopping. I'm sure that Kisa's nusery is big enough for two, don't you think?"
Kara slowly blinked up at her mother, a little shocked. "We're going to keep the baby?" Akira returned the look, shocked that she'd even ask such a question.
"Of course.. I'm not giving my first granddaughter up. Had I gave up my first child, because I was too young, I wouldn't have you... or Kaya for that matter." Akira stood up, an outstreched hand held in front of her child.
I dare you to lift yourself, lift yourself up off the floor
Kara grabbed it, and found her feet once more. "We'll get through this together, I promise." The mother told the mother-to-be.
I dare you to move
Kara smiled weakly, but purely. "What do you think dad will say?"
I dare you to move
"I'll talk to him before hand, but I'm sure he'll be supportive aswell. Now what color do you think the baby would like?"
"Green.. Like your eyes, mom. I've always love that color, because of the kindness I always see in your eyes, and I know the baby will see it too." Akira was on the verge of crying again, and almost instantaniously wrapped her arm's around her blue-eyed daughter, and threated to never let go.
Like today never happened
"Mom.. I love you." Kara smiled, happy to have such an affectionate mom as Akira.
Today never happened
"I love you too, sweetheart." She loosened her grip a bit, to look down at the wonderful child she not only created, but shaped into a wonderful girl with a beautiful personality through her life's experiences. It meant so much to Akira that her child would say such sweet things and mean them whole-heartedly. Kara would soon know too, the true love that came from a mother to her child.
Today never happened before
"Kara? Want to help me cook? It's an old family recipe that I want to pass on to you, and now is a better time than any to learn it." Kara nodded, and trotted off to the kitchen with her mother following close behind, her heart overflowing with so much love.
